Description
Metabolic Insight is a comprehensive metabolic health blood test designed to assess key biomarkers associated with metabolic, cardiovascular, nutritional, thyroid, liver, kidney and hormonal health in a single profile. It brings together lipids, glucose, HbA1c, insulin, cardiovascular risk markers, thyroid function, vitamin D, folate, vitamin B12, active B12, iron studies, UEC (urea, electrolytes and creatinine), liver function and sex hormones.
The profile goes well beyond a standard cholesterol and glucose screen, giving practitioners a detailed picture of cardiometabolic risk and overall metabolic function, including:
- Insulin resistance and glycaemic control: fasting glucose, fasting insulin, HOMA-IR score, HbA1c and estimated average glucose.
- Advanced cardiovascular risk: a full lipid profile with non-HDL cholesterol and lipid ratios, apolipoprotein A-1, apolipoprotein B (ApoB), lipoprotein(a) and Liposcreen LDL subfractions, which measure VLDL, IDL and LDL subclasses, mean LDL particle size and LDL phenotype pattern.
- Inflammatory and vascular markers: high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP), homocysteine and fibrinogen.
- Thyroid function: TSH, free T4, free T3, reverse T3, the FT3/RT3 ratio, and thyroid peroxidase, thyroglobulin and TSH receptor antibodies.
- Nutritional status: iron studies, vitamin B12, active B12, folate and vitamin D.
- Kidney and liver function: electrolytes, urea, creatinine, eGFR, bilirubin, liver enzymes and proteins.
- Hormonal health: progesterone, oestradiol, DHEA sulphate, testosterone, SHBG and calculated free testosterone.
Metabolic Insight provides both a broad baseline and a practical tool for the ongoing assessment of metabolic health. It is particularly useful for monitoring patients undergoing GLP-1 receptor agonist therapy, weight-management programs and other metabolic health interventions, where tracking changes in insulin sensitivity, lipids, liver and kidney function, thyroid function and nutrient status over time can help guide and refine treatment.
