Description
The BABY-Biome test is a comprehensive stool analysis designed to assess the developing gut microbiome in infants and young children aged 0–3 years. Early-life microbial colonisation plays a critical role in immune system development, metabolic programming, gut barrier integrity and neuroendocrine signalling.
The gut microbiome begins forming at birth and is strongly influenced by factors such as mode of delivery, feeding practices, antibiotic exposure and environmental contact. These factors shape the microbial ecosystem during a sensitive developmental window where microbial balance can have lasting effects on health.
This test uses advanced molecular technologies to evaluate microbial composition, functional activity, gut inflammation, digestive function and potential pathogenic organisms. The panel provides practitioners with insight into the maturation of the infant microbiome and helps identify factors that may contribute to symptoms such as digestive discomfort, immune dysregulation, skin conditions, food sensitivities or altered bowel habits.
Results are interpreted using age-specific reference ranges and developmental microbiome patterns, recognising that microbial composition changes significantly during infancy and early childhood.
