Description

Ceruloplasmin is a critical protein in the human body, and its assessment through testing holds significant importance. This copper-binding enzyme plays a multifaceted role and is integral to the body’s iron metabolism (1). The liver incorporates copper into apocaeruloplasmin, forming caeruloplasmin, which is then released into the bloodstream. Roughly 95 percent of the copper found in the blood is bound to caeruloplasmin (1). The importance of ceruloplasmin includes facilitating iron transport and regulation, as well as minimising oxidative stress and neurological disorders associated with unbound copper (1).
