Description
The HDL family forms a protective part of plasma lipoproteins. It consists of large HDL, intermediate HDL, and small HDL subclasses. The large HDL and intermediate HDL subclasses are considered anti-atherogenic parts of the HDL family and small HDL may indicate increased CHD risk. High density lipoproteins (HDL) are a class of structurally and functionally heterogeneous particles in atherosclerosis‐related diseases and should be tested in early stages of life as a preventive measure to CVD.
NutriPATH offer a HDL subfractions test that is for research purposes only. This profile provides subclasses of HDL- Subfraction 1-3 Large, HDL –Subfraction 4-7 Intermediate, HDL- Subfractions 8-10 Small. It is important to assess these markers as a preventive measure to cardiovascular disease. This profile can either be ordered alone or as a combination with LDL-subfractions and oxidised LDL test code 4032.
